Duties Description Assist with the operation and maintenance of DEC facilities, including buildings, wildlife management areas, fishing access sites, and state forests. Must be able to operate light and heavy equipment and power tools safely and efficiently. CDL A license required to operate highway vehicles including but not limited to medium and heavy duty dump trucks, Rollbacks, stake body truck. CDL preferred but not required upon hire, however candidate must obtain CDL A within 12 months of job appointment.
Candidate may be required to perform a variety of tasks of the buildings and grounds maintenance trades including; plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, sawyer, mowing, landscaping, equipment operation and snow removal
Assist in the maintenance of various types of trails, parking access
areas for hunting, fishing and recreational activities, department assets and infrastructure
Candidate may be required to perform maintenance and repair work
on diverse types of motor equipment
May be required to assist with office tasks such as work orders, vehicle reports, invoicing, processing and logging paperwork
Minimum Qualifications One year as a Facility Operations Assistant 1; OR, two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade. Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.
Additional Comments Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must obtain a Class A CDL within 12 months of appointment with appropriate endorsements and no air brake restriction.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
