Duties Description Under the general supervision of a Senior Accountant in the Revenue Accounting Department, the Accountant Aide will be assigned a wide variety of duties. These duties include, but are not limited to:
- Daily cash, check, and credit card receipt processing and posting
- Work with customers to process payments both in person and via phone
- Delinquency Notices
- Invoicing
- Follow ups
- Review TFP entries for accuracy
- Daily, monthly, and year-end posting of accounting entries
- Creating new customers in TFP
- Refund requests
- Prepare Write On/Off
- Prepare and enter transfers
- Other duties/projects as assigned

Minimum Qualifications 1. TRANSFER QUALIFICATIONS FOR CURRENT STATE EMPLOYEES:
Current New York State employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service allocated to a Grade 7 or above and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the NYS Civil Service Law.

All trainee level transfer candidates must have 6 credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and must successfully complete a 2-year traineeship which will lead to the journey-level SG-13, Accountant Aide.

All journey-level transfer candidates must have 12 credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses.

2. NY HELPS MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Accountant Aide Trainee 1: Six credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and either one year of experience gathering, preparing and updating financial data, financial reports, and records; or reconciling accounts and data, reviewing accounting and auditing reports, and verifying accuracy of calculations, balances, and supporting documentation; or assisting accountants or auditors conducting financial and program audits by counting, verifying, and reconciling inventory and cash on hand, determining and verifying the accuracy and propriety of transactions, records, reports, and statements.

Accountant Aide Trainee 2: Nine credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and either 18 months of experience gathering, preparing and updating financial data, financial reports, and records; or reconciling accounts and data, reviewing accounting and auditing reports, and verifying accuracy of calculations, balances, and supporting documentation; or assisting accountants or auditors conducting financial and program audits by counting, verifying, and reconciling inventory and cash on hand, determining and verifying the accuracy and propriety of transactions, records, reports, and statements.

Journey-Level Accountant Aide: Twelve semester credit hours of accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and either two years of gathering, preparing, and updating financial data, financial reports, and records; or reconciling accounts and data, reviewing accounting and auditing reports, and verifying accuracy of calculations, balances, and supporting documentation; or assisting accountants or auditors conducting financial and program audits by counting, verifying, and reconciling inventory and cash on hand, determining and verifying the accuracy and propriety of transactions, records, reports, and statements.

This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.

ADDITIONAL PAY INFORMATION:
The salary range for this position includes all applicable annual components of pay which are:
Base Pay Range from Hiring Rate $38,580 up to Job Rate $65,176.
Recruitment & Retention Pay: $7,000.

This position may be filled as a traineeship. The starting salaries for this traineeship are outlined below. For current New York State employees, salary is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire.
$38,580 (Trainee 1, equated to SG-09)
$42,286 (Trainee 2, equated to SG-11)
$46,371 (Journey Level, SG-13)
