Duties Description DOCCS Bureau of Mental Health is seeking a highly motivated candidate to fill an anticipated opening for Licensed Clinical Social Worker/SG-23. Position will concentrate on staff wellness and be located at Central Office in Albany.
• Provide oversight and clinical supervision to LMSW’s assigned to staff wellness positions.
• Provide crisis interventions for mental health/situational needs.
• Participates in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) deployments and debriefings throughout the state as indicated.
• Serves as a member of a multidisciplinary Central Office Staff Wellness committee to include disciplines such as Health Services, Security, and Program areas.
• Advocates for staff rights and access to benefits and services to meet their personal and social needs.
• Advise departmental authorities of common trends and assist in developing workable solutions that relate to employee physical health and mental wellbeing.
• Research and provide input regarding best practices related to behavioral wellness guidelines for employee services; prepare reports and conduct special projects and research on behavioral wellness; and develop health interventions.
• Collaborate with partners in the community, including providers, labor organizations, and community resources to research and keep apprised of best practices, and to identify and develop adequate support for employees and their families.
• Develop and maintain an effective working relationship with the self-help community.
• Keep abreast of industry trends and standards.
• Attend wellness conferences, workshops, and trainings to research best-practices in the field of law enforcement wellness.
• Work with DOCCS Bureau of Mental Health and the Training Academy in the development of interactive training sessions for employees on a variety of topics such as corrections fatigue, trauma and stress reactions, stress management, characteristics of individuals who are in crisis or actively suicidal, crisis intervention, and resource availability.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). (*Please see below for further information).
Non-Competitive Qualifications: Possession of a license and current registration as a licensed clinical social worker in New York State.
*For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to complete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
