Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have one year permanent competitive service as a Museum Instructor OR be reachable on the Museum Instructor eligible list.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is seeking to fill the position of Museum Instructor in the Museum Education Unit of the New York State Museum. The State Museum provides programs and lessons to over 70,000 students each year, designed to enhance their understanding of the State Museum’s exhibits and artifacts. These programs are designed to assist schools increase their emphasis on object- and inquiry-based learning to help students achieve the New York State Learning Standards. Duties of the position will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Plan State Museum classes and instructional programs, and schedule and provide classroom instruction sessions in coordination with other Museum Instructors;
• Develop teachers’ guides, instructional lessons, programs, and techniques for classroom use based on the NYS Learning Standards and emphasizing the use of the State Museum’s collections and exhibits;
• Provide classroom instruction to students of various ages and educational levels, and to a variety of other groups visiting the State Museum;
• Participate in the development of State Museum exhibits;
• Provide classroom instruction through distance learning formats using technology;
• Conduct research, collect and review reading materials, and work with State Museum curators, historians, and researchers in preparation for the development and conduct of classroom lessons;
• Prepare necessary teaching aids, promotional and informational booklets, and materials for use by school teachers to supplement or substitute for State Museum classroom instructions;
• Assist with the preparations for major special events at the State Museum; and
• Develop curriculum for the State Museum’s programming initiatives.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a permanent contingent appointment.
