Minimum Qualifications:
Seven years of full-time, paid, professional editing or writing experience AND (the following experience may be concurrent):
• Two years of experience producing and editing materials for a public website
• One year of experience presenting financial and technical information via the internet to the general public
A bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, English or a closely related field may be substituted for the four years of the editing/writing experience.
Duties Description Under the general direction of the Director, the incumbent will be responsible for composing or editing Internet site content reflecting technical reports concerning the financial and management plans and performance of New York State, training materials, annual office reports, press office statements, and similar materials.
• Maintain uniform standards of style and usage for all Internet materials produced by the Office of the State Comptroller, ensuring correlation of content and layout, propriety of tone, reasonable consistency of approach across the agency’s diverse divisions, and organizational and grammatical correctness.
• Draft original web content and edit existing content, working together with business units.
• Responsible for disseminating standards of style and usage for the website, including the development of multimedia presentations designed to communicate technical information effectively to expert and non-expert audiences.
• Mobilize the resources of contemporary electronic media, such as hypertext, video and social media, to make information widely accessible and memorable for our users.
• Coordinate with design staff in each division to ensure workflow and conformance to project initiatives across the agency.
• Review and interpret tabular material to draw conclusions from tables, analyze data trends or interrelationships, and revise or combine data sets.
• Develop and conduct training programs and maintain a research library to improve the web writing ability of staff throughout the Office of the State Comptroller.
