Duties Description This position will be responsible for the operation, repair, and maintenance of equipment and systems including pumps, high temperature hot water generators, high temperature hot water boilers and auxiliary heating system equipment. The operation, repair and routine maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment providing heat, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution is also included. The use of appropriate PPE, selecting and safely using the appropriate tools and equipment needed to complete the assigned tasks, and attending job related training is also required. Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
Must be eligible for permanent appointment to this title pursuant to civil service law.
Competitive (NON-NY HELPS):
Transfer Eligibility Requirement: You must have a current permanent appointment with a minimum of 1 year of service in a position of the same title or transferable title.
Non-competitive (NY HELPS):
To be eligible for a NY HELPS appointment, the candidate must meet the minimum qualifications listed on the Civil service exam announcements.

The Central Heating Plant maintains all heating, air conditioning, hot water, ventilation, and refrigeration services as well as overseeing the proper functioning of all elevators on campus. We also answer after hours calls and provide service, as needed, and are a 24/7 operation. We are a part of the Administration & Finance division which provides essential services to our campus, local, state, federal and international customers. We are responsible for human, physical, financial and technical resources. As professionals, we navigate systems in a collaborative and sensitive way to assist the University in achieving its educational mission. The shift for this position is 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. with pass days of Friday and Saturday.
