Duties Description The New York State Department of Financial Services seeks to build an equitable, transparent, and resilient financial system that benefits individuals and supports business. The Department of Financial Services is seeking a candidate for the position of Data Analyst 2 in the Data Governance Unit within the Research & Innovation Division. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Produces business intelligence solutions by querying data repositories and generating periodic reports;
• Devises methods for identifying data patterns and trends in data sources; assesses data structures and how they can be used to produce desired reports;
• Researches new data sources and analytical tools, and recommends solutions;
• Conducts or coordinates tests to ensure that business intelligence solutions are consistent with defined needs;
• Tests, validates, and reformulates models to ensure accurate prediction of outcomes of interest;
• Drafts new functions or applications in programming languages to conduct analyses;
• Creates written reports and effectively communicates/presents results;
• May supervise lower level staff; and
• Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Appointment method: Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications listed below in order to be eligible for appointment.
Non-Competitive: Seven years of experience* in data visualization, statistical models and data mining tools.
*Substitution: An associate’s degree may substitute for two years of general experience; or a bachelor’s degree may substitute for four years of general experience. A master’s degree in data or computer science, informatics, economics, statistics, mathematics, or a related field, may substitute for one year of general experience; or a Ph.D. in these fields may substitute for two years of general experience

Salary: The starting salary for this position is $86,681 with periodic increases up to $109,650
Positions located within the New York City metropolitan area, as well as Suffolk, Nassau, Rockland, and Westchester Counties, are also eligible to receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment.
