Duties Description Do you enjoy the outdoors and have a passion for environmental and public health? Apply and make your season count by working as a Student Assistant for the New York State Department of Health’s Center for Environmental Health (CEH)!
Student Assistants support the mission of CEH by performing a variety of administrative and environmental health functions Student Assistant positions assist CEH district office environmental health staff by performing a variety of critical administrative support functions. Positions may also perform environmental health inspection functions in the field for the purposes of ensuring compliance with the New York State Sanitary Code and environmental health regulations.
A Student Assistant role provides interested individuals with the ability to gain real world experience in the field of public health through on-the-job training.
Minimum Qualifications Documentation of current matriculation must be submitted with your resume.
The preferred candidate will be a matriculated college or high school student interested in exploring a career in public/environmental health. They will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team; problem solve effectively; have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; strong interpersonal skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; experience with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other computer programs as needed.
Additional Comments Temporary, hourly, non-competitive appointment opportunity. Salary determined by academic level. Hours worked and schedule are flexible and dependent upon assignment. Must maintain matriculated student status to retain employment.
Candidates that are currently employed by other New York State agencies or State University of New York campuses may be required to obtain dual employment clearance before hire.
This position may require travel throughout New York State including overnights to areas not served by public transportation.
