Duties Description The student assistant (intern) will work directly with the supervising administrative law judge and other administrative law judges in drafting and reviewing administrative determinations and other documents issued pursuant to New York Tax Law. The intern will have the opportunity to attend administrative hearings at the NYS Division of Tax Appeals and oral arguments at the NYS Tax Appeals Tribunal.

Previous interns currently work as administrative law judges at the Division of Tax Appeals, as well as attorneys at the Department of Taxation and Finance and at private law firms.

Minimum Qualifications • Enrolled as a 2nd or 3rd year law student.
• Strong research and writing skills are essential.
• Knowledge of New York State and Local Tax Law is preferred but not required.

Additional Comments The NYS Division of Tax Appeals is seeking applicants from the classes of 2027 and 2028 for its legal intern position. The position will commence at the start of the Spring 2026 semester, through the end of August, with the opportunity to continue through the 2026-2027 school year, if mutually agreed upon.

Expected hours are approximately 12hours/week during the Spring semester, though hours can be flexible based upon class schedule, and up to 37.5hours/week during the summer.
