Duties Description The Office Assistant (OA) 1 is responsible for facilitating general correspondence and communications. This includes forwarding calls to technical staff and managing the District Office voicemailbox. The selected candidate will be responsible for periodically checking and responding to or forwarding emails and faxes that are in the main District Office email inbox, and receiving physical mail as directed.
The OA 1 will be required to mail bills, possibly assist with follow up on overdue/late bills, and assist with issuing refunds as applicable. The incumbent will also be responsible compiling and processing Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) and boil water requests. The OA 1 will process permits and enter data into the Environmental Health Information and Permitting System (EHIPS), and Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS).

Reassignment or Transfer: Current New York State employee with permanent or contingent permanent, competitive status as an Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, OR a New York State employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent permanent, competitive, service in a title at or above Grade 4, and deemed eligible for transfer to Office Assistant 1, Grade 6, under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Preferred Qualifications:The preferred candidate will possess strong verbal and written communications skills, and exhibit excellent organizational skills. They will have the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. They will demonstrate their ability to manage and prioritize multiple assignments effectively. The preferred candidates should have experience with Excel, Outlook, Word, and Microsoft Teams.
