Duties Description As the Upstate Regional Dental Director, the selected individual will report to the Director or Medical Director of OMH’s Central Office Bureau of Health Services (BHS). They will meet regularly with the Director and/or Medical Director to report on the status of facilities’ dental services and share issues or concerns. They will oversee the maintenance of the OMH Hub website dental information; revise, update, and disseminate dental policies and guidelines to Facility Dental Directors; provide guidance and consultation to dental staff at Upstate facilities on a wide range of topics; assess dental equipment needs at Upstate facilities and make recommendations regarding new or replacement equipment; monitor staffing levels in facility dental departments and advocate for additional fills, as required; conduct annual on-site visits to dental clinics at Upstate facilities and submit written reports to the BHS; conduct peer reviews of Facility Dental Directors and/or contract Dentists; and perform other administrative duties, as required.
As a Facility Dental Director, the selected individual will function as a general dental practitioner and administer the dental program at their assigned facility. They will serve as a working dentist - performing a full range of professional dental tasks to diagnose and treat dental diseases and injuries; plan, organize, and direct the work of professional and paraprofessional dental staff; consult with subordinate dentists on problem cases; coordinate the provision of dental care and services with other clinical specialties; ensure that the facility’s Dental Department complies with all applicable regulatory standards; order and maintain dental equipment and supplies; and ensure appropriate documentation of all dental procedures.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates may be considered for appointment if they:
1. Are reachable on the current Dentist 4 eligible list;
2. Have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law (e.g., Dentist 2, SG-32); or
3. Meet the non-competitive minimum qualifications for appointment under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NY HELPS) program, which are:
• Possession of a valid New York State license to practice dentistry, with current registration; and
• Four (4) years of full-time post-licensure dentistry experience, one (1) year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity in a dental health care setting.

Additional Comments;
Posted hiring rate includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 34 ($153,517), and Geographic Pay Differential ($35,000). The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($184,896), and Geographic Pay Differential ($35,000).
