Duties Description Under the direction of the members of the State Board of Law Examiners, the Executive Director, Board of Law Examiners is responsible for overseeing all operations related to the conduct of the New York State Bar examination. The Executive Director, Board of Law Examiners supervises and coordinates all aspects of bar examining and Board activities, and performs other related duties.
Duties include, but are not limited to: providing executive oversight for all functions of the Board of Law Examiners and establishing strategic priorities to ensure the fair, secure, and efficient administration of the bar examination; directing the development and implementation of policies, regulations, and operational standards; serving as the primary liaison to courts, legal organizations, law schools and other national and state bar admissions offices and entities; reviewing research, trend analyses, and
policy recommendations prepared by staff and approving final reports; overseeing staffing decisions, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation of personnel; hiring, training, and performance evaluation of exam proctors; ensuring the accuracy and integrity of exam administration, scoring, and data reporting; managing contracts, testing facilities, technology platforms, and vendor relationships; providing final review and approval of candidate communications, exam announcements, and results; overseeing the adjudication of accommodation requests and misconduct investigations; and directing budget planning, resource allocation, and compliance with statutory mandates. Travel is required.
Minimum Qualifications Admission to the New York State Bar and four (4) years of legal experience; or Master's degree in Public or Business Administration from an accredited college or university and six (6) years of relevant experience; or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of relevant experience;
or An equivalent combination of education and experience.
