Salary RangeFrom $15.40 to $15.40 Hourly
Minimum Qualifications 30 semester college credit hours, including or supplemented by 12 semester credit hours in forestry, which must include at least one course in three or more of the following areas: forest biology, silviculture, forest mensuration, forest protection, forest soils, dendrology, botany and land surveying
OR
one year of diversified, technical forestry experience in two or more of the following areas: forest management, including sale and removal of timber products, nursery management, including the transplanting of tree or shrub seedlings; forest pest management, including control of diseases and insect pests.
Duties Description Candidates of choice will complete forest inventory work on State Forest properties under the direction of a professional forester. Successful candidates may be required to work alone, in rough terrain. Specific tasks may include the following:
• Gather field data from random plots using 10 BAF prism, clinometer, tree scale stick, and other related equipment, using standard procedures
• Input field data into the State Forest inventory program
• Assist with timber type mapping and inventory plot layout using GIS technology
• Gather field data with hand held GPS unit and/or electronic data collector
Additional Comments Seasonal, hourly appointment with a duration of 5/14/15 - 8/6/15.
Actual work schedule and duties may vary and will be discussed at interview.
Candidates must possess a valid New York State driver’s license at the time of appointment, or demonstrate their ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.
Essential skills include:
• Tree identification
• Tree diameter and height measurement
• GPS navigation
• GIS data manipulation
