Duties Description Under the supervision of higher?level personnel, the Park Worker 3’s duties include, but are not limited to:
• Perform a variety of administrative duties by assisting with answering the phones, preparing seasonal payrolls,
• maintaining inventories, and collecting information for work orders.
• Assist in coordinating and executing recreation events conducted at the park.
• Interact with the public, answer visitor questions, and resolve patron complaints.
• Keep inventory of equipment, monitor condition, and schedule/perform repairs.
• Perform assigned park?related duties such as litter removal around the building, cleaning structures, and snow
• removal.
• Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices, directing staff, and working with
• patrons to minimize potential problems.
• Work closely with volunteers, the community and other facilities and vendors to assure NYS Parks’ mission is
• always met.
• Supervise others including assigning and reviewing work, training, and developing employee skills, and evaluating
• seasonal employees.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience* in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility.
In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR
One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR
An Associate’s or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR
Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Park Worker 3.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be proficient with MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Must have the ability to follow directions and communicate with staff, public, and respond to patrons' concerns or complaints in an effective and positive manner.
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
May include weekends, evenings and holidays. Specific schedule will be discussed at the time of interview.

The listed hiring rate combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 9 ($46.641) with Location Pay ($4,000). Similarly, the posted job rate is a combination of the statutory job rate ($56,413) with the Location Pay ($4,000).
