Duties Description JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential Job Functions:
• Has working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the craft or crafts to which assigned
• Uses tools, machines, equipment and material of the craft or crafts to which assigned
• Trains and supervises others
• Plans and lays out work and diagnoses problems
• Efficiently reads and interprets plans, diagrams, architectural blueprints, and specifications
• Understands and carries out written and oral instructions
Operating Needs:
• Operates a variety of hand, power and special tools for extended periods
• Performs moderate to heavy manual labor
• Works from ladders, man lifts or scaffolding
• Effectively uses and comprehends parts, operating and repair manuals
• Has good interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with others as a team
• Possesses a valid NYS Driver license, class D or above (other than a motorcycle license)
• Is able and willing to work overtime, sometimes on short notice, responds to off-hour emergency requests, and provides an acceptable response
• Is familiar with pertinent codes related to electrical, plumbing and fire safety
• Works well with diverse groups, as a team, with a positive customer service attitude
• Troubleshoots and diagnoses and repairing electrical, mechanical, plumbing issues, Simplex fire alarm systems, Emergency Generators, and other utility trade tasks
• Obtains Asbestos Supervisor Certification within six (6) months of hire
• Able to oversee the repairs of a water main break or power outages
Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Non-competitive: four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Preferred Qualifications:
Has previous experience in a large facility electrical repair and installation environment.
Has confined space experience in high voltage maintenance.
ARC flash training.
Extensive relevant journeyman level electrician experience (working on three phase, lighting contactors, fire alarms, and generator transfer switches).
