Duties Description The Public Information Specialist 1 (Digital Content) will join the Office of General Services’ Convention and Cultural Events, and Curatorial Services programs to assist managing online communications and improve the agency’s ability to target and expand customer outreach, engagement, and participation.
The Public Information Specialist must thrive in a fast-paced working environment, take initiative, lead ideas to results, be able to shift between multiple tasks and priorities. Primary responsibilities will include website management, social media management, digital marketing media and asset management. Specifically, the Specialist will:
• Develop and execute digital communications and marketing strategies designed to:
o Increase event and tour attendance.
o Enhance visitor experience at the Empire State Plaza and other event venues.
o Increase awareness of the cultural, architectural and historic impact of the New York State Capitol, Empire State Plaza, and the Plaza Art Collection and Memorials.
• Design email and social media campaigns, and schedule social media posts on agency channels.
• Schedule paid advertising with statewide media outlets and assist with managing CCE campaigns.
• Attend all events to post information and monitor and response to visitor inquiries on social media channels.
• Write event web content and build web pages in Drupal content management system.
• Monitor online information for accuracy and timeliness.
• Leverage website and social media analytics to assess and enhance customer engagement and event attendance.
• Generate web and social media key performance indicators that demonstrate the effectiveness or deficiencies in marketing expenditures.
• Identify and coordinate appropriate media needs for program initiatives, including graphics, ads, photography, and video.
• Reach out to promoters, booking agents, and artist management to secure properly formatted marketing materials, including photos, artist bios, or videos.
• Ensure assets are used in accordance with the artist’s contractual requirements.
• Ensure all event sponsor’s digital media and advertising obligations are met according to sponsorship contractual agreements.
Operational Needs:
• Travel may be required (approximately 5%), including during evening and weekends, depending on mission and assignment.
• This position has a schedule of Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm plus Events.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.
Minimum Qualifications Six years of experience in public relations, social media, and digital communications.
*Substitutions: A degree in Communications, English, Public Relations, social media, Digital Communications, or a similar degree may substitute for experience as follows:
• Associates degree: Two years of required experience.
• Bachelor’s degree: Four years of required experience.
• Master’s degree: Five years of required experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with using digital platforms to publicize and market events, such as concerts and festivals, and other cultural initiatives.
• Expertise in using social media applications for promoting and covering public events, including Meta Business Suite (Facebook, Instagram, Threads, Meta Ads), LinkedIn, and YouTube.
• Proven ability to write for varied audiences using plain language standards.
• Ability to use Adobe Creative Cloud applications including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.
• Experience using Google Analytics and Meta Insights to track customer reach and engagement.
• Website editing experience using a content management system such as Drupal.
• Though not required, bilingual candidates who meet the minimum qualifications are also encouraged to apply.
