Duties Description Duties include but may not be limited to:
• Perform architectural design and project management duties to complete complex architectural projects for new and rehabilitation of building plans and designs.
• Prepare architectural drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects under the direction of licensed staff.
• Coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other technical disciplines.
• Actively manage the schedule of assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules.
• Review reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants.
• Actively oversee consultant design work for assigned projects.
• Develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress
• Review shop drawings, respond to contractor Requests for Information, create and/or review Information Bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project’s construction.
• Perform a full range of supervisory duties, including reviewing the work of subordinate staff.
Operational Needs:
• Some travel is required (approximately 20%).
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver’s License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle is required or otherwise demonstrate the capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job.

*There is no examination required for appointment to a NY HELPS position. Candidates hired via NY HELPS will be appointed on a permanent non-competitive basis and will begin a probationary period.
At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected that NY HELPS employees will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to take an exam. Employees will then be afforded with all the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.
Salary Adjustments for Positions in Albany
Geographic pay differential added to hiring salary = $7,000.
The Office of the General Services (OGS) supports telecommuting where it is reasonable to do so based upon the agency’s mission and operational needs. Generally, employees new to OGS Design and Construction (D&C) will be restricted from telecommuting for at least 8 calendar weeks. After the initial 8 calendar week restriction, if an employee’s duties and work performance are aligned with telecommuting they may be allowed to do so. Upon approval to telecommute, OGS D&C employees may telecommute up to 4 days per pay period.
This position is graded and offers a salary range from the hiring rate to the job rate for its designated grade. All hires begin at “Start Rate” unless prior state experience affords eligibility for hiring step increase as determined by OSC.
Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS)* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:
Applicants will need to possess a New York State Architect license and current registration.
OR
52.7 Non-Competitive Promotion:
If there are no more than three qualified candidates in the promotion field for this position, the agency will request approval from the Department of Civil Service to fill this position via a non-competitive promotion (NCP) examination, pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. To be eligible for the NCP, candidates must meet the following qualifications: Current New York State Office of General Services employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service as an Assistant Architect AND possess a NYS Registered Architect’s license with current registration and must not have failed the last holding of examination.
OR
Applicants may also be appointed to this position if currently reachable on the appropriate eligible list for this title OR if they possess an architect license and current registration in NYS AND have one year or more of permanent service as a Facilities Planner 2, or a Professional Engineer 1 (Civil/Construction).
and eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
NOTE: IN ORDER TO AWARD THE PROPER CREDIT FOR WORK EXPERIENCE, RESUMES MUST INCLUDE MONTH AND YEAR FOR START AND END DATES. IF ANY OF THIS EXPERIENCE IS LESS THAN FULL TIME YOU MUST INDICATE THE AVERAGE NUMBER OF HOURS WORKED PER WEEK.
