Duties Description The Trades Supervisor (Carpenter) will report directly to the Maintenance Supervisor 2, SG-17, and will be assigned to Regional Maintenance located at Bear Mountain State Park within the Palisades region of OPRHP. The successful candidate will be a skilled journey-level carpenter with basic knowledge of the practices and techniques of the other building trades.
The Trades Supervisor (Carpenter) is a working supervisor who will oversee lower-level employees, directing structural building repairs, replacement and repair of roofs, siding and shingles, restore & repair and/or replace doors and windows, restore stone and brick masonry, plaster, and paint finishes, and other work required to preserve historic site buildings and structures.
The selected candidate’s duties will include, but not be limited to:
• Instruct, guide, and support the Regional Carpentry Crew in the maintenance and repair of buildings and structures within the Palisades Region.
• Manage and direct the work of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled employees.
• Utilize working knowledge of carpentry techniques to read and work from plans, specifications, blueprints, and schematic drawings, as well as prepare rough sketches.
• Communicate in writing as well as read and comprehend written material; follow verbal and written directions.
• Estimate and obtain necessary supplies and materials for approved projects; manage project logistics; supervise work crews, and bring projects to successful completion.
• Supervise and perform a variety of other maintenance, repair, and installation tasks. These tasks may include carpentry work required for plumbing and electrical trades jobs, keys, locks and locksmithing, site work, assistance with other regional building projects, and other duties as necessary.
• Maintain written records of work performed, account for labor/materials used and provide information and progress reports to Supervisor and/or Regional Administration.
• Utilize tools, machines, equipment, and materials, as well as train staff on safe operation of tools.
• Erects and utilizes scaffolding or ladders as needed.
• Adhere to all applicable safety regulations and use proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Candidates may be required to report to other facilities throughout the Palisades Region on an as-needed basis.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience* as a skilled journey-level carpenter subsequent to the completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Candidate must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must be certified as a scaffold competent person or obtain training and certification within one year of appointment as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be qualified and medically cleared to wear a respirator and adhere to safe working practices.
LOCATION PAY:
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 14 ($56,506) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($68,630) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).
