Duties Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor 2, SG-17, the selected candidate will perform journey-level painting work as well as perform supervisory tasks. Duties will include, but are limited to:
• Prepare surfaces and applies coats of paint, varnish, and other finishes.
• Decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces and fixtures of buildings, structures, furniture, equipment, and materials.
• Responsible for ordering the appropriate type and quantity of paint based on area measurements and project requirements.
• Assemble materials, tools, and equipment required for painting work.
• Erect and utilize scaffolding or ladders as needed.
• Fill nail holes, cracks, or joints with putty, plaster, or other fillers.
• Prepare surfaces for painting using tools like sandpaper, brushes, and steel wool.
• Remove paint using paint remover or scrapers if necessary.
• Use premixed paints or prepares paint by mixing pigments, oil, and thinners to match specified colors.
• Paint surfaces using brushes, spray guns, paint rollers, or mittens.
• Stripe parking lots using striping equipment.
• May supervise subordinate staff, including semi-skilled and unskilled workers.
• Provide training and instruction to staff.
• Communicate effectively, including in writing, with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner as well as read and comprehend written material.
Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of full-time experience* in painting under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in painting at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Candidate must be able to work at heights from ladders, scaffolding, or bucket truck.
• Candidate must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must be certified as a scaffold competent person or obtain training and certification within one year of appointment as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be qualified and medically cleared to wear a respirator and adhere to safe working practices.
• Candidate must attend the training course: Lead Safety for Renovation, Repair, and Painting, or an acceptable equivalent, provided by the agency within one year of appointment as a term and condition of employment.
LOCATION PAY
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($50,425) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($61,548) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).
