Duties Description Under the direction of the Park Manager, the selected candidate’s duties will include, but not be limited to:
• Identify and take appropriate action regarding safety and maintenance issues such as loose boards on docks, hazardous trees, water and sewer line leaks, and other repairs as needed to maintain a safe environment within Group Camps.
• Report project status as well as any hazards or issues to park manager or designee.
• Communicate in writing as well as read and comprehend written material.
• Under the direction of a skilled tradesperson, perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and mechanical repairs in order to maintain and repair all Group Camp buildings.
• Operate and maintain heavy equipment, power and hand tools in a safe and productive manner.
• Assist with manual snow removal, including plowing all camp roads and clearing paths of snow and ice as directed.

Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;
OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance
OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;
OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;
OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;
OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete OPRHP sawyer training or equivalent within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. This training will be provided by OPRHP.
• Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must be able to operate heavy equipment.
• Must be able to work outside in a variety of weather conditions.

LOCATION PAY:
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 9 ($42,641) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($52,413) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,000).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The CSEA contracts allow for salary protection for seasonal / hourly employees who are appointed to permanent graded positions with lower hiring rates under certain circumstances. We encourage OPRHP seasonal / hourly applicants to check in with your Regional Business Office Administrator to inquire about the potential impact on your salary. As a permanent graded employee you will be eligible for regular salary / performance advances (i.e. salary increases).
