Duties Description Helen Hayes Hospital, where hope has a home. A leader in the field of physical rehabilitation and research since our founding in 1900, Helen Hayes Hospital is widely recognized as one of the nation’s premier physical rehabilitation hospitals. Helen Hayes Hospital is looking for a Pathologist to provide leadership and oversight of our limited license Laboratory.
The Laboratory Pathologist (MD/DO) is responsible for the medical oversight, diagnosis, and interpretation of laboratory tests and pathology specimens. The Pathologist collaborates closely with clinicians, laboratory staff, and facility administration to support high-quality patient care. The Pathologist ensures the accuracy, reliability, and clinical relevance of laboratory results while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards including CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and other regulatory/accreditation standards. The Pathologist will supervise ongoing monitoring of quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) programs
The Pathologist will serve as Medical Director of the laboratory, provide medical oversight of operations and ensure compliance with development, review, and approval of laboratory policies and procedures. The Pathologist will exhibit leadership and team collaboration skills including excellent written and verbal communication abilities, strong diagnostic and analytical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and patient safety. The Pathologist will supervise and collaborate with laboratory manager and phlebotomists, review proficiency testing results, implement corrective actions when necessary, and provide guidance on validation and implementation of new laboratory tests and technologies. The Pathologist will also work closely with our third-party vendor who handles all of our testing.
Minimum Qualifications Admission to a residency training program in a medical specialty approved by the ACGME or ABPN.
Preferred Qualifications: Hospital-based pathology and laboratory medicine experience is preferred.
Additional Comments The position requires a commitment of 8 hours per week and is perfect for a Pathologist looking for supplemental income with flexible hours.
