Duties Description NYSDOT is now hiring summer interns!

Landscape Architects at NYSDOT are a leading-edge team of motivated, empowered, and respected professionals committed to bringing communities, resiliency, and sustainability into consideration on every NYSDOT project. Each NYSDOT employee plays an important part in fulfilling the Department’s mission and goals, as we are one DOT working cohesively to ensure the state has a safe, efficient, balanced and environmentally sound transportation system.

Duties will vary from position to position, based on the assignment, but they all have a common goal – to enhance public safety for all users while minimizing impacts to the environment. Landscape Architecture interns may work in one of a variety of program areas under the direct supervision of a NYSDOT Landscape Architect or Environmental Specialist.

Based on the assignment, interns will perform duties such as GIS, research, policy and planning, ecological surveying, environmental science, landscape architecture, 3D design, CAD drafting and graphic design, etc. to achieve the mission of the Department.

Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Minimum Qualifications Must have completed at least 12 credit hours of college study and be currently enrolled in an accredited degree program

Preferred qualifications:

Enrolled in one of the following degree programs:
Landscape Architecture; Architecture; Urban and Regional Planning; Urban Affairs; Sustainability; Geospatial Technology, or Environmental Engineering.

Additional Comments Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

The salary range listed reflects the full range for this graded position. For new State employees appointed into graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
