Duties Description The Director Nursing 3 Long Term Care, under the direction of the Administrator, is responsible and accountable for the provision of quality nursing care on a 24-hour basis. The Director Nursing 3 Long Term Care has the administrative responsibility to take all reasonable steps within the authority of this position to ensure that optimal quality of care is delivered to support the goals of the Home, and to help residents reach and maintain their highest level of physical, mental and psychosocial well-being. The Director Nursing 3 Long Term Care will work closely with the Administrator and Medical Director in managing facility operations and will participate in decisions related to admissions and resident-related contractual agreements; plans, organizes and administers nursing services to ensure the provision of nursing care for all residents through compliance with all federal and state codes, rules and regulations; develops and implements nursing policies and procedures, and ensures they are maintained and current; reviews all Patient Review Instruments (PRIs) for potential admission to the Home; meets with all nursing staff to ensure the provision of high quality resident care, and evaluate all employees according to schedule. The Director Nursing 3 Long Term Care also oversees Infection Control and Nursing Continuous Quality Improvement programs; evaluates nursing practices to determine need for in-service training; ensures that nursing care supplies are appropriate; communicates with the Administrator on pertinent resident care or other issues. The Director Nursing 3 Long Term Care may also be requested to act as the Administrator-in-Charge in the absence of the Administrator; maintain departmental statistics and submit monthly reports to the Administrator; conduct recruits, interviews and make appointments of nursing staff recommendations. The incumbent will coordinate nursing care with other departments through the interdisciplinary team approach; provide up-to-date information and reports as requested; serve as a resource for the Home regarding nursing care standards. The incumbent will also coordinate nursing student affiliations and trainings; attend and assure department staff attend all mandatory and other relevant in-service trainings; meet all continuing education and professional staff development requirements and have working knowledge of proper fire and emergency preparedness procedures. The Director Nursing 3 Long Term develops, implements, evaluates and modifies as appropriate departmental continuous quality improvement programs; utilizes and assures that department staff utilize technology and state-of-the-art principles, procedures, concepts and tools in order to maximize department efficiencies; adapts and embraces change; works as and assures all department staff work as a member of the care team.
Minimum Qualifications Current New York State employee with one or more years of permanent, contingent-permanent, or 55 b/c service in a position allocated to Grade M-2 or above, and that is eligible for transfer under Section 52.6 of the Civil Service Law to Director Nursing 3 Long Term Care.
Open Competitive HELPS qualifications: Possession of a license and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State and five years of post-licensure professional clinical nursing experience in a long-term care setting. Two years of the experience must have been at a managerial level.
Substitution: A master’s degree in nursing can substitute for one year of non-managerial post-licensure clinical nursing experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience with geriatric population.
Additional Comments One temporary competitive, or non-competitive via HELPS, full-time appointment.

The posted salary range ($188,775 to $199,911) includes an increased hiring salary for MC for the amount of $22,268, a geographic pay differential of $35,000 and a downstate adjustment of $4,000.
Inconvenience pay program of $575 per year will be paid to employees who work four (4) hours or more between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. Hours worked between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on an overtime basis are not included for Inconvenience Pay. There is an additional Shift differential of 7% for evening shift and 10% for Night shift.
