Duties Description The Administrative Litigation Unit (ALU) is part of the Office of General Counsel at the New York State Justice Center. The intern experience in ALU will include the analysis, interpretation, and application of laws related to the work of the NYS Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. The intern will work with ALU attorneys and HR Specialists to:
• Review and assessment of testimonial, documentary, and audio/visual evidence gathered during investigations of allegations of abuse or neglect alleged to have occurred in facilities serving people with special needs.
• Analyze evidence to determine whether it meets statutory definitions of abuse or neglect.
• Conduct legal research and draft legal memorandum, if needed, on various issues.
• Must be able to set own priorities and manage all deadlines in accordance with legal timeframes.
• Provide assistance to others by performing various legal and administrative tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in creating evidence packets, redacting documents, mailing, scanning, faxing, filing and copying. Assist with the creation, documentation and implementation of procedures and filing systems.
• Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times. Will receive confidentiality training as part of internship.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Preferred Standing: 2nd Year Law Student
Minimum Standing: Rising 2nd Year Law Student

Additional Comments Number of Hours: 20 – 30 up to full time during breaks.
