Duties Description This position provides technical support for avian and habitat conservation and management work within Region 9. Field work may include a variable work schedule, and limited travel. Candidate will assist regional work with bird diversity work, such as colonial waterbird, grassland bird, and raptor surveys, and other wildlife management. Will include surveys of grassland birds by sight and sound, habitat mapping, accessing colonial waterbird nest islands by boat, using trail cameras, monitoring and lethal control of predators and vegetation control. Will also assist with pheasant stocking, chronic wasting disease surveillance work, deer data collection during hunting season, waterfowl banding, wildlife health response, and responding to public inquiries via phone, email and outreach events. Will require work in rough terrain, all weather conditions, carrying heavy field gear. Good communication , organizational , and computer skills are essential.
Minimum Qualifications 30 semester credit hours, including 12 credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, or wildlife management, marine biology, aquaculture, aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology, zoology, marine technology, botany, limnology, hydrology or oceanography.
Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 11/30/2026. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
