Duties Description Under the direction of park management at Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park, the selected candidate's duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities and groundskeeping for FDR State Park and Donald J Trump State Parks.
• Operating and performing routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including heavy equipment, trucks, tractors, mowers, and power saws.
• Loading and unloading cargo from vehicles and storage.
• Performing building and ground maintenance and cleaning activities.
• Assisting in garbage removal using garbage truck and compactor.
• Assisting in emergency situations by applying emergency procedures and practices; assisting and directing staff and working with patrons to enforce park rules and engage in customer service, particularly in the case of an emergency; and assisting with traffic control and parking of vehicles.
• Building and repairing roads, paths, picnic tables, benches, trails, and park equipment with assistance.
• Completing snow removal, shoveling snow, and operating vehicles to plow snow during winter months.
• Assisting with pruning and tree trimming activities involving the operation of a chain saw, stump grinder, wood splitter, bucket truck, and/or chipper.
• Supervising, training, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of lower-level employees.
• Maintaining parking lots and roadway networks within the facility.
• Working with park management in the scheduling, permitting, and operating of public events and programs.
• Working with park volunteers, the community, other departments and agencies, businesses, concessionaires, and vendors.
• Any other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Reassignment Qualifications:

Applicants must currently be in a Park Worker 3 position with OPRHP.

Non-Competitive Qualifications:

One year of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility;

OR - One year of experience in any of the following fields:
• Law enforcement or security
• Firefighting
• Emergency Medical Services
• Environmental education or stewardship
• Natural resources management (e.g., forest management, wildlife management/preservation)
• Historic preservation or interpretation
• Landscaping or grounds maintenance

OR - One year of military service in any branch of the United States Armed Forces;

OR - Thirty (30) semester credit hours of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university;

OR - Completion of a two-year technical/trades school program;

OR - Two years of experience as a trade assistant working under the direct supervision of a skilled tradesperson.

Additional Comments Operational Needs:

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be able to perform light to medium physical labor.
• Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
• Must be able to operate a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, bucket trucks, tractors, mowers, line trimmers, and power saws.
• Must participate in and complete training programs as instructed.
• Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must complete OPRHP sawyer training or equivalent within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment. This training will be provided by OPRHP.
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively with other staff, park patrons and businesses.
• Must have the ability to read and comprehend written material.
• Must have the ability to supervise others.
