Duties Description • Assist with the SPDES Administrative Renewal Program (SPAR): including but not limited to producing mailings, maintaining the SPAR database and other tasks
• Assist with review and data entry associated with SPRTK Notifier registrations
• Assist with General Permit Programs including review and approval of MSGP Notices of Intent (NOIs), modifications and terminations
• Entry of NOIs, modifications to NOIs, and No Exposures to ICIS
• Review of MSGP Annual Certification Reports and Discharge Monitoring Reports
• Provide support to the DEC regional offices, DEC’s Office of General Counsel, the Environmental Protection Agency and respondents on enforcement actions (as needed)
• Electronic storage (scanning) and maintenance of permit records (permits, reports, correspondence, etc) for all SPDES permits. This includes filing paper records
• Additional similar activities as those listed above, as they arise
• Various intermittent office tasks, such as: stuffing envelopes for mass mailings, filing, data entry outside of the above list
Minimum Qualifications Open-Competitive:
Four years of experience in technician work in aeronautical, chemical, civil, electrical, environmental, mechanical, or sanitary engineering technology; environmental technology; geology or geology technology; or as a surveyor or a drafter;
OR graduation from high school and one year of qualifying experience;
OR graduation from a high school technical education program in aeronautics, architectural drafting, chemistry, electricity, electronics, mechanical design and construction, technical structural drafting and design, technical instrumentation and control systems, or computer circuitry;
OR 18 college semester credit hours in any combination of the following: engineering, geology, environmental science, natural or physical science, drafting, mathematics, or surveying.
Additional Comments This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 9/30/2026. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Telecommuting may be available, will be discussed at interview.

For new State employees appointed to graded positions, the annual salary is the hiring rate (beginning of the Salary Range) of the position. Promotion salaries are calculated by the NYS Office of the State Comptroller in accordance with NYS Civil Service Law, OSC Payroll rules and regulations and negotiated union contracts.
