Duties Description Small engine (pumps and chainsaws) repair and maintenance. Installation and repair of emergency warning equipment on vehicles, snowmobiles, ATVs, and boats. Installation of lettering on vehicles, snowmobiles, ATVs, boats, and trailers. Installation of truck accessories(tool boxes, caps, canoe racks, etc.).
Maintenance and testing of fire equipment (pumps, hose, hand tools). Delivery of equipment and supplies to incidents. Grounds maintenance including lawn mowing, string trimming, snow shoveling and snow plowing. Cleaning of facilities including offices, bathrooms, work shop, and storage areas. Building maintenance. Transporting vehicles and trailers. Maintenance and light repairs of vehicles and trailers. Assisting with mobilization and demobilization of fire crews. Inventorying equipment and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: two years of experience in mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades-person or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York
State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2027, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Use of personal protection equipment, including a respirator, will be required.
Must be able to work in remote areas.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.
Overtime may be required.
Overnight travel may be required.
Weekends and holidays may be required.
Must be available for emergency response.
Must be available to respond to after-hours emergencies.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
