Duties Description The State University of New York at Fredonia invites applications for a probationary permanent, full-time, 12-month, Trades Supervisor (Plumber & Steamfitter), SG14 in Facilities Services - Plumbing. The Trades Supervisor (Plumber & Steamfitter) performs the activities and tasks listed in the classification standard for this title.

The entry-level hiring rate for this position will be $56,506 and includes a comprehensive benefits package. The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and may require evening and weekend work.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, the Supervising Plumber and Steamfitter supervises plumbers and steamfitters and other workers engaged in the installation, alteration and repair of pipes, fittings and fixtures of heat ventilating, heat control, water and drainage systems. Incumbents are working supervisors and may perform any of the tasks in the plumber and steamfitter trades. Supervising Plumber and Steamfitter supervise a staff by assigning work, giving instructions and assistance and observing and inspecting the project to ensure that plans have been followed and schedules met. A Supervising Plumber and Steamfitter uses the tools of the plumbing and steam fitting trade including standard hand tools, portable power tools and shop equipment.

A Trades Supervisor (Plumber & Steamfitter) performs the activities and tasks listed in the classification standard for Plumber and Steamfitter.
Examines blueprints, schematic drawings and sketches to determine the material, tool and labor requirements to accomplish the project and orders the required materials and supplies.
Assigns staff to each project providing oral instructions, blueprints or sketches and interprets specifications or blueprints as required.
Meets with trade supervisors and others representing other trades involved in the project to coordinate activities and schedule work to be performed to insure that the work continues and will be completed on schedule.
Observes work in progress to insure that the project will be completed on schedule and according to plan.
Inspects plumbing and steam fitting work during installation and when completed for conformity to specifications or codes.
Inspects work performed by outside contractors to insure conformance to project specifications.
Keeps written records of work performed and accounts for labor and materials used.
Periodically prepares standard written evaluations of the work performance of the subordinate staff.
This position has been designated as an Essential Services Personnel position. It is the policy of Fredonia that employees designated as essential will be required to provide support by performing their normal and customary duties in the event of an emergency. Such service is required to maintain university properties and services in the event of an emergency. The essential personnel will vary depending on the nature and scope of the emergency.

Minimum Qualifications One year of experience as a skilled journey-level plumber and/or steamfitter subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.

A valid state Drivers License.
