Duties Description The incumbent in this position will assist with park programming, park administration and stewardship projects at Mine Kill State Park, Max V. Shaul State Park and John Burroughs Memorial Field State Historic Site. Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Work with other park staff, SCA, and volunteers to provide nature-focused educational programming at Mine Kill State Park and satellite facilities.
• Develop and implement new educational programs tailored to regional school groups grades K-12, community organizations, and the public.
• Help to plan and carry out other park events.
• Enhance outreach for programming by attending local events and developing fliers.
• Promote and expand volunteerism in our parks, through programs such as I Love My Park Day and National Public Lands Day.
• During the summer months, serve as a park ambassador, providing roving interpretation and visitor assistance as needed.
• Complete trail building and maintenance, invasive species removal and other land stewardship projects.
• Work with the public, including answering questions, concerns, and comments and working the park's contact station, or front booth.
• Assist in all phases of park operations, assisting park visitors, safety and security, and park improvement projects.
• Aid in park administrative duties, including park attendance, bookkeeping, and inventory.

Minimum Qualifications There are no minimum qualifications per Civil Service.

Additional Comments Preferred Qualifications:

• A degree or equivalent experience in natural resources, biology, environmental studies, or a related field.
• Teaching experience.


Operational Needs:
• Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Ability to work with MS Excel, Power Point, Word, Access and Adobe Express.
• Ability to work outdoors year-round.
• Ability to perform medium physical labor.
• Effective communication skills.
• Must be willing to keep current on all mandated safety trainings, including First Aid and CPR/AED.
