Duties Description The National Purple Heart Hall of Honor is a New York State Museum site under the jurisdiction of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission. It is the only museum dedicated to commemorating the sacrifices of the estimated 1.8 million recipients of this award it is believed there have been since the award’s creation in 1932. The mission of the Hall of Honor is to collect, preserve and share the stories of Purple Heart recipients from all branches of service and across all conflicts for which the award has been available.
Under the supervision of the Interpretive Programs Assistant, SG-17, the incumbents duties will include but not be limited to the following:
• Greet visitors and inform them of the basic history of the facility and its exhibits, with an emphasis on gift shop operations.
• Process sales and handle cash and inventory.
• Provide public programming, including group visits and special events.
• Provide educational programming, which requires costumed interpretation.
• Perform office operations including data entry, Roll of Honor enrollment processing, and answering telephone inquiries and other tasks as needed.
• Work with staff, volunteers, and visitors in a collaborative environment.
• Communicates effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.
• Adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.
Minimum Qualifications No minimum qualification per Civil Service.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must be available to work weekends, holidays.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, data entry, and internet research/website navigation.
PREFERRED OPERATIONAL NEED:
• POS experience preferred but not required.
• Background in history, museum studies, or a related field is preferred but not required.
