Minimum Qualifications Qualifications: Minimum Requirements: Candidates must be eligible for appointment as a NYS Peace Officer as established under NYS Criminal Procedure Law section 2.10 and qualified to carry a firearm.

Under Federal Law, unpardoned felons or persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are ineligible to carry firearms. Conviction of a felony or misdemeanor may bar candidates from appointment depending upon the relationship of the violation of law to the duties of the position.
Must be eligible for NYS and NYC pistol/carry license.
Confidential Investigators are required to meet physical, medical and psychological standards.

Candidate must possess valid New York State driver’s license and be able to drive government vehicles. Travel throughout New York State via car, train or other forms of mass transit. Overnight travel is required.

Preferred Qualifications: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with gathering evidence in a computer-based organization. A Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field; a Master’s Degree in any field and at least one year of criminal investigative experience; or ten years of internal affairs investigative experience, including investigations of white collar criminal activity. Current New York State Peace Officer certification is desirable but not necessary.

Duties Description Under the direction of the Director and Assistant Director of Internal Affairs, the incumbent conducts confidential investigations of corruption, official misconduct and other suspected criminal wrongdoing, by Department of Taxation and Finance employees or individuals attempting to obstruct tax administration:

The incumbent must be capable of carrying out duties and responsibilities of a peace officer as defined in Section 2.10 of the New York State Criminal Procedure law.
