Duties Description The Regulatory and Policy Unit Student Assistant provides program-level support to the Regulation and Policy Unit, helping move statewide EMS regulations and policy initiatives from concept to adoption and implementation. Working under the direction of the Unit Manager, the incumbent conducts foundational research to support statutory and regulatory development efforts, assists with the preparation of draft language, briefing materials and presentations, and assists with the coordination of logistics for stakeholder engagement. The position also assists by engaging stakeholders in the use of Biospatial, coordinating work related to Data Use Agreements, and sharing feedback and identifying solutions with leadership. The Student Assistant ensures high-level decision making and strategy is informed by research, analysis and well-organized program operations.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be a matriculated undergraduate or graduate college student. Documentation of matriculation and enrollment in the Fall 2026 semester must be submitted with your resume.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience researching, collecting and analyzing information to prepare written reports, memoranda, presentations or briefing documents; Experience coordinating multiple concurrent tasks or projects under tight timelines, Working knowledge of New York State rule-making and policy-development processes or the ability to learn quickly; Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications and SharePoint, including document version control; Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to proofread and format technical documents; Ability to interpret statutes, regulations, and policy guidance and summarize key points clearly; Excellent organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage confidential information; Ability to build productive working relationships with internal and external partners.
Additional Comments Temporary, part-time, non-competitive. Salary determined by academic level. 20 hours per week during the academic year is required, schedule is flexible. Must maintain matriculated student status to retain employment.
Telecommuting is permissible up to 50% of working hours based on operational needs and at the discretion of the assigned Program area.
