Duties Description The University Police Investigator 1 is primarily involved in investigating violations of criminal law on campuses of the State University of New York. They typically conduct investigations, which may extend over periods of weeks or months and which may require application of the full range of interviewing and investigative techniques. These investigations are distinguished from those conducted by University Police Officers, which are incidental to other law enforcement activities, by their longer duration and by the use of the wider breadth of investigative techniques utilized, such as on-site information gathering at the scene of accidents or incidents.
Investigator duties require conducting investigations and maintaining official liaisons. The nature of the work includes interviewing students, Residential Life, Administrative Personnel, complainants, etc. The Investigator, when assigned a case, should report fully on case status and include solvability factors.

Minimum Qualifications COMPETITIVE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must be current state employees and have a reachable score on the University Police Investigator 1 list; or
Have a current permanent appointment with 1 year of service as a University Police Investigator 1, or as a title eligible for transfer to University Police Investigator 1; or
Have an appointment as University Police Investigator 1 here at UAlbany with less than 1 year of service (remainder of probationary period to be completed in new assignment); or
Be a former state employee eligible for reinstatement to the title of University Police Investigator 1

May be filled from a mandatory reemployment list if one is in effect at the time of appointment.
