Duties Description The State University of New York is the largest comprehensive system of higher education in the United States, and more than 95 percent of all New Yorkers live within 30 miles of any one of SUNY's 64 colleges and universities. Across the system, SUNY has four academic health centers, five hospitals, four medical schools, two dental schools, a law school, the state's only college of optometry, and manages one US Department of Energy National Laboratory. In total, SUNY serves about 1.3 million students in credit-bearing courses and programs, continuing education, and community outreach programs. SUNY oversees nearly a quarter of academic research in New York. Research expenditures system-wide are nearly $1.1 billion in fiscal year 2021, including significant contributions from students and faculty. There are more than three million SUNY alumni worldwide, and one in three New Yorkers with a college degree is a SUNY alum.
The State University of New York System Administration, located in Albany, New York, is seeking to hire temporary employees for the position of Office Assistant 1 to help process undergraduate applications for admission.
The duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for entering and verifying undergraduate student data submitted via electronic on-line and paper applications.
- Processing revisions received for applicant data.
- Keying payments to student records and releasing applications held for payment.
- Processing cash, check, and credit card payments.
- Evaluation of waiver forms to ensure completeness and releasing applications held for payment.
- Open, sort, and distribute mail.
- Perform various clerical/data processing tasks including document scanning and uploading, photocopying and filing.
- Process supplemental application materials, including EOP financial backing documentation; conducts searches on computer systems, distribute/upload materials to appropriate campuses while keeping accurate records.
- Communicate with applicants and schools via phone and/or email.

- There are no minimum education or experience requirements for this position.

Additional Comments Additional Information:
- Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Occasional evening and additional overtime hours may be required.
- CSEA Salary Grade 06.
- These positions are anticipated to be for a period of three to six months and are benefits eligible.
- Rate of Pay: $17.35 per hour
Note: Non-Competitive: Candidates should be aware that a preferred list, transfer list, placement roster and/or reemployment roster of laid off State employees may be certified against this vacancy by the Department of Civil Service.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. VISA sponsorship is not available for this position.
