Duties Description Under the general direction of the Fire Protection Specialist 3, the incumbent supervises the daily activities of assigned staff in the Hazardous Materials Branch within the Office of Fire Prevention & Control.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
•Direct the planning, development, and delivery of firefighting, hazardous materials,and other fire and life safety related training programs.
•Perform supervisory functions to ensure proper staffing levels and finances are available to support programs.
•Respond and direct staff to respond to emergency incidents as needed. Provide technical assistance to local fire officials as requested.
•Assist with monthly and quarterly reports as needed.
•Assigns work, evaluates work performance, counsels' staff, approves time off, trains staff, and participates in the interview and selection process.
•May represent the State Fire Administrator at meetings with local officials and at national, state, and local seminars, conferences, and workshops.
•Performs other duties and special projects as required.
•Possession and maintenance of a valid Driver's License issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicle.
•Significant travel, approximately 60%, often overnight in an assigned geographic location is required.
Minimum Qualifications REASSIGNMENT/TRANSFER
Current New York State Division of Homeland Security and emergency Services employee with one year or more of permanent, contingent-permanent or 55b/c service as an Fire Protection Specialist 2 and are interested in reassignment.

Additional Comments NOTE: Support of operations during times of emergency and disaster from State Emergency Operations Center (EOC), state field offices and/or local deployments may be required, which would result in a change and/or increase in working hours, locations and/or duties.
