Duties Description The incumbent of the Major, Park Police, M-2, position will report to the Assistant Director of Law Enforcement (Colonel) and perform the following duties which include but are not limited to:
• Supervision of the following units: Division Headquarters, Division Training and Academy, Division Field Operations, Emergency Management, K9, Unmanned Arial System (UAS) and Division Communications Unit.
• Ensure that all civilian and sworn members are aware of their respective duties and responsibilities and perform such duties efficiently according to the Police Manual.
• Develop and prepare Division Headquarters budget as well as assist with overall Division Budget (Non-Personal Service and Temporary and Seasonal and Overtime).
• Coordinate Grievance process between the field and Director of Law Enforcement (DLE) and the Assistant Director of Law Enforcement (ADLE) and assist as necessary.
• Confirm all mandatory reporting requirements have been assigned and completed by Division Staff.
• Monitor and update Division Policy and Procedure, as appropriate and necessary.
• Liaison with Agency Bureaus and Executive Staff when DLE/ADLE unavailable.
• When necessary, assist with District Commanding Officer coverage for emergency notification.
Minimum Qualifications NYS Civil Service Eligible List
There is no current civil service eligible list for this title.
Non-Competitive Promotion (NCP):
Candidates must have one year of permanent competitive service as a Captain, Park Police, SG-22, or Lieutenant, Park Police, SG-20, with the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
If 3 or fewer qualified NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation employees eligible for promotion respond to this posting, Civil Service may approve the permanent appointment of one of the qualified employees without further examination.
Provisional Appointment:
Based on the results of this posting notice, OPRHP may make a provisional appointment to this position. The minimum qualifications for provisional appointment are: one year of permanent competitive service as a Captain, Park Police, SG-22, or Lieutenant, Park Police, SG-20, with the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
Reassignment:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent permanent service as a Major, Park Police, M-2.
Reinstatement:
Candidates who were previously permanently employed by New York State in this title may be reinstated to this position or to any position to which they were eligible to transfer. Employees separated from their positions may be reinstated within one year of the date of separation. Employees who have been separated from State service for more than one year may be reinstated upon approval of the New York State Civil Service Commission.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Candidate must possess and maintain a valid New York State driver’s license that allows the person to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Candidates must reside in New York State as a term and condition of employment.

**This title has an Occupation Pay Differential (OPD) of $34,301
Total salary cannot exceed the combination of the Job Rate ($137,206) and the OPD $34,301
