Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level managers, the Maintenance Supervisor 1, SG-14 will oversee program, staff, and operations at the Baker Camp located in Harriman State Park. The incumbent will be a working supervisor involved in all aspects of the renovation of camp buildings, utility systems, and grounds. This position will supervise two (2) Trades Generalists who will serve as mentors and trainers for the Trades Corp Program participants. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
• Supervises and coordinates the activities of a variety of permanent and seasonal skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled staff engaging in a broad range of park maintenance and repair work, which may include skilled trades work.
• Plans and lays out work, assigns staff, provides instruction and assistance, coordinates work teams, actively supervises and inspects work in progress and upon completion.
• Prepares weekly written reports in response to specific assignments, work orders, and other assignments as needed.
• Leads the staff by emphasizing health and safety guidelines, modeling and enforcing all agency policies, providing training and orientation to new staff, and formally evaluating the performance of all staff under their supervision.
• Coordinates with higher-level management staff as directed to ensure that priority needs for maintenance and repair are promptly identified and addressed in a manner that avoids disruption of the camp operations to the greatest extent feasible.
• Determines needs for purchasing materials, equipment, and supplementary contractor services for required maintenance and repair of buildings, mechanical systems, fixed equipment, and grounds.
• Completes necessary purchasing requests and prepares and/or compiles any required supporting documentation.
• Evaluates camp facilities for energy conservation and sustainability of operations.
• Sets standards and assigns tasks based on the daily operational needs of the park.
• May also serve as shift supervisor as assigned by supervising programs and operations as needed.
• Carries out other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• Adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.
• The selected candidate may be required to transport participants between work sites.
Minimum Qualifications One year of trade experience subsequent to the completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience such as that required for a Trades Specialist (Carpenter), Trades Specialist (Electrician), Service and Repair Mechanic (Electronics), Trades Generalist, Grounds Construction Supervisor, Trades Specialist (Locksmith), Trades Specialist (Machinist), Trades Specialist (Mason and Plasterer), Service and Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment), Trades Specialist (Painter), Trades Specialist (Plumber and Steamfitter), Service and Repair Mechanic (HVAC-R), Trades Specialist (Roofing), or Trades Specialist (Welder).
Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Maintenance Supervisor 1.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
•The duties of this position as a condition of employment require you to have and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows you to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Failure to maintain a valid driver’s license may result in removal from this position.
•Must be well-versed in local building codes, reading diagrams, and understanding building plans as well as performing grounds maintenance.
•Must be knowledgeable in the use of personal protective equipment and capable of following appropriate safety standards.
•Must be able to wear a N-95 mask as a term and condition of employment.
•Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Location Pay:
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 14 ($59,049) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,150). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($69,909) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,150).
