Duties Description Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, SG-14 or higher-level designee, this Trades Generalist will be a working supervisor. The Trades Generalist(s) at Baker Camp located in Harriman State Park will perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks. This position will supervise the Trades Corp program participants, serving as a trainer and mentor for the participants. The incumbent will be responsible for a primary trade in one of the following: plumbing, carpentry, motor equipment, small engine repair, heavy equipment operation, or mechanics.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
•Apply skills and knowledge in carpentry to make structural building repairs, replace and repair roofs, replace siding and shingles, build steps and landings, repair or replace doors and windows, and frame dividers, etc.
•Lay out work and diagnose problems; read and interpret plans, diagrams, and specifications.
•Assist the Maintenance Supervisor 1, SG-14 and other camp department personnel in performing a variety of other maintenance, repair, and installation tasks, including duties in the carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry trades.
•Perform medium to heavy manual labor, including lifting, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
•Utilize a variety of hand tools, portable power tools, chain saws, and construction equipment appropriate to the work assigned for skilled and semi-skilled maintenance repair, installation, and construction.
•Supervise, train, mentor, assign and instruct lower-level staff in a Trades Corp Program, engage in a broad range of infrastructure maintenance and repair work.
•This position involves working outdoors in all weather conditions, including difficult site terrains and remote areas of the park.
•Adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.
•May also serve as shift supervisor as assigned by supervising programs and operations as needed.
•Carries out other related duties and responsibilities assigned.
•The selected candidate will be required to transport participants between work sites.
Minimum Qualifications Four years of full-time experience* under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate part-time and volunteer experience.
Reassignment Qualifications:
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Trades Generalist.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
•The duties of this position as a condition of employment require you to have and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows you to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Failure to maintain a valid driver’s license may result in removal from this position.
•Must be able to wear a N-95 mask as a term and condition of employment.
•Must be knowledgeable in the use of personal protective equipment and capable of following appropriate safety standards.
•Must have working knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and other building crafts.

Location Pay:
The hiring rate will be the sum of the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($52,694) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,150). The job rate will be the sum of the statutory job rate ($64,321) and the Downstate Adjustment ($4,150).
