Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: For permanent appointment or reassignment for current NYSED employees, candidates must have one year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as a School Food Programs Specialist 2 or as a Food Service Management Specialist 1 OR be reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for this title.

Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of P-12 Education is seeking candidates to fill the position of School Food Programs Specialist 2 in the Office of Child Nutrition. This Office is responsible for providing technical assistance and performing field inspections of schools, sponsors and residential child care institutions participating in the School Breakfast, School Lunch and Summer Food Service Programs (SFSP) and to ensure compliance with federal and State regulations, including the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Coordinate a team of School Food Programs Specialists 1’s in the administration of the federal Child Nutrition Programs;
• Schedule and assign staff to complete reviews;
• Review and approve reports and letters;
• Supervise and conduct monitoring reviews to ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations;
• Analyze all program reviews, ensuring review correspondence is in compliance with regulatory timelines, and calculate reclaims;
• Provide technical assistance to sponsors and agencies by telephone, e-mail, correspondence or on-site visits;
• Review and prepare draft child nutrition materials to ensure they are clear, concise and comprehensive and provide suggestions for improvement;
• Assist with drafting and preparing summaries for Department’s response and preparation for appeals;
• Supervise and train staff regarding efforts and processes to ensure the fiscal and nutritional integrity of the programs including the development of forms, written procedures and memos for the web site; and
• Oversee the scheduling, planning and delivery of sponsor training.

Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent appointment. This position requires travel. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $66,494 based on annual performance advances.
