Duties Description The job duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Assignments will vary and will include providing assistance with rendering "in-house counsel" guidance to staff; performing legal research and analysis; drafting and review contracts; preparing opinions, determination letters, and memoranda of law; and interpreting statutes and rules and regulations. Additionally, the applicant is expected to develop into and serve as subject matter expert on benefits, regulatory, and compliance related matters. The applicant will assist in the administration and interpretation of statutes governing the System and overall issues of pensionability. The applicant will review documents submitted for legal review including but not limited to retirement applications, beneficiary designations, powers of attorney, trusts, domestic relations orders, income executions, bankruptcy letters, subpoenas, FOIL requests, contracts, and confidentiality/non-disclosure agreements.
Additional Comments Knowledge of and/or interest in pension plans. Superior research, writing, analytical and organizational skills. Detail oriented. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to function and excel in collaborative work environment as well as ability to work independently with minimal instruction. Applicant will be a self-starter and capable of exercising reason and judgment in handling assignments and work product. Commitment to a team culture and environment.
