Minimum Qualifications Minimum qualifications for taking the open-competitive examination: candidates must have three years of satisfactory experience in the operation and maintenance of electronic equipment in one or more of the following areas: Diagnosis and repair of electronic office equipment; Medical electronic equipment such as electrocardiographs, blood gas analyzers, x-ray equipment; Scientific equipment such as chemical analyzers, and radiation detector instruments; Communication equipment such as 2 way radios, fire alarms, closes circuit television systems; Control equipment (including HVAC control systems and energy management systems), security systems and intrusion and surveillance equipment; or Instrumentation including meters, sensors, indicatiors, recorders, and sata acquisition equipment. SUBSTITUTIONS: Either an associates degree in electronic technology or successful completion of a two year technical professional certification program in the electronics field may be substituted for two years of the required experience; OR Graduation from a high school technical electronics education program recognized by NYS Education Department as meeting the standards for technical education may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Duties Description Install, repair and maintain electronic equipment following blueprints and manufacturers specifications, and using hand and power tools and test equipment. Tests electronic components and circuits following troubleshooting procedures, using instruments such as signal generator, ammeter, and voltmeter. Replace and repair defective components and wiring, and as necessary, adjusts mechanical parts. Adjusts and calibrates equipment following manufacturers specifications. Perform preventative maintenance on equipment according to prescribed procedures and schedule tests, adjusts, calibrates equipment following manufacturers specs. Maintain records of repairs, calibrations and tests made. Order parts and keeps inventory records.
