Minimum Qualifications You must currently be a General Mechanic with NYS or in a title eligible for a 70.1 transfer OR must have four (4) years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled journey-level position which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprentice training in a trade or training gained by the completion of technical courses in a trade at a school or institute may be submitted for the above experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred qualifications: HVAC/Air Conditioning and Refrigeration experience license to handle refrigerant required. Four (4) years of full-time experience under a journeyman.
Duties Description A General Mechanic performs journeyman works in one trade, and skilled and semi-skilled level work in all trades. The general mechanic can supervise others in maintenance, repair, installations and construction activities. Duties also include reading blue prints, electrical diagrams, and schematics. Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair on walk-in freezers and coolers, split air conditioning units and electrical malfunctions. Working with high and low voltage controls, and other duties as assigned.
Additional Comments The NYS Veterans Home at Montrose is a 158,000 square foot, 252 bed skilled nursing home located on approximately 22.5 acres. The facility is in constant need of maintaining and repairing HVAC equipment, including but not limited to eleven (11) Trane Air Handlers, two (2) 2,000 amp electrical distribution systems, and two (2) dual temperature water circulation systems.
