Minimum Qualifications The minimum qualifications are as follows:

• Must be a US Citizen or foreign national eligible to work in the United States.
• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Must be currently attending a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State, attending a college, university or graduate program outside of New York State.


• Must have completed a minimum of one (1) year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year College or University (completion of one year's worth of academic credits over a more extended period of time may qualify part-time students); or a currently enrolled graduate student or accepted in a graduate degree program.
• Must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0, or equivalent to a C.

Preferred qualifications:
• Senior college student or minimum standing - sophomore.
• Major in Information Technology.

Internship skills:
• Communication: Present ideas clearly and concisely
• Organized : Be able to find, exchange, and evaluate items quickly
• Knowledge : General knowledge of networking terminology
• Familiarity : With concepts of networking equipment – router and switches

Duties Description This student assistant position is with the Managed Network Support and Operations Unit of Enterprise ITS. The responsibilities include network monitoring, network troubleshooting and break fix activities of the ITS Customer network.

• Assists in the design, development, configuration and/or installation of Local Area and Wide Area (LAN/WAN) networking equiptment .

• Configure data communication parameters on Nortel, Cisco, Juniper and other vendor’s hardware platform.

• Work with vendors to address interoperability issues between disparate hardware vendors.

• Assists in the review and testing of network designs and changes.

• Identify network problems and deficiiancys using network monitoring, trending, packet capture, and analysis tools and applications. Experience with Zenoss Network Monitoring software, Network Instruments Observer, Solar Winds Orion, CATI, Network General’s Infinistream platform, syslog and netflow statistics will be given preference.

• Resolve reported network issues.

• Assists with identifying tools and standards, as necessary to maintain currency with data communications technologies.

• Communicate with users and technical peers as necessary to respond to network issues.
