Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Reassignment: One year of permanent competitive or 55b/c service as an Assistant in Occupational School Supervision.
Eligible List Appointment: Candidates who are reachable on the Civil Service eligible list for Assistant in Occupational School Supervision may be considered for appointment.
If the eligible list has fewer than 3 acceptors, a provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must have a Master’s degree AND three years of experience in Occupational Education, Career and Technical Education, or Career Training, one year of which must have been in the administration, oversight, or monitoring of proprietary school programs. A proprietary school is a non-degree granting post-secondary vocational or career school.
Employees of ACCES who are currently in an Assistant in Occupational School Supervision position and are interested in transferring to the location indicated on this flyer MUST apply for the position as outlined in the Application section of this flyer.
Duties Description The New York State Education Department’s Office of Adult Career and Continuing Education Services (ACCES) is seeking to fill an Assistant in Occupational School Supervision position in the Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision (BPSS) in the Albany Central Office. Major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Develop a working knowledge of statutory and regulatory provisions, policy guidelines and curriculum requirements;
• Communicate information and guide stakeholders in the field;
• Conduct frequent school inspections to monitor for statutory and regulatory compliance and provide technical assistance;
• Write reports subsequent to inspections to communicate schools’ compliance with mandates, the ability to have the license(s) renewed, and/or the development of a Corrective Action Plan to attain compliance;
• Participate in meetings and trainings, and develop and present content-specific information material; and
• Work collaboratively with other members of BPSS.
Additional Comments CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This will be a contingent permanent or provisional appointment. Promotions and transfers may change appointees’ negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. Extensive travel in and around New York State including areas that may not be serviced by public transportation, as well as frequent travel to the New York City metropolitan area will be required. Filling of this position is contingent upon Division of the Budget approval.

*Leads to a maximum salary of $81,415, based on annual performance advances.
