Duties Description Under the general direction of the Director of Communications, the Assistant Public Information Officer will serve as the Digital Information Officer for the NYS Gaming Commission. The position will develop and execute a strategy for digital channels including the website, email and social media. Additionally the position will work collaboratively with the Cluster Digital Information Officer and NY.Gov Digital team. Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
• Update and manage the agency website and social media channels, ensuring they are up to date and relevant. Responsible for the implementation and expansion of the use of social media technologies for the NYS Gaming Commission;
• Lead redesign of agency website working with the NY.Gov Digital team to develop a new content strategy;
• Work closely with agency program areas to identify content for digital channels;
• Train and educate program areas on how to write for the web and update the agency website;
• Set goals for agency website and social media channels and develop reports for senior staff;
• Create and re-write content for the agency website
• Develop and execute digital campaigns for initiatives or programs;
• Be an advocate for best digital practices within the agency;
• Work closely with your Cluster Digital Information Officer to collaborate on digital campaigns and work with diverse members from across multiple agencies;
• Manage and grow agency social media channels on a day-to-day basis to build branding;
• Optimize images and videos for the web and social media;
• Participate in STAR social media task force meetings;
• Keep up with media trends, and explore opportunities for new communications channels;
• Ensure consistent messaging across all platforms;
• Assist the Communications team in everyday activities, including writing, researching and responding to inquiries received via digital channels.
Additional Comments The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. Some flexibility is available. Applicants must be able to work nights and weekends as required.
Appointment will be contingent upon completion of a fingerprint background check before an official appointment offer can be made.
