Minimum Qualifications Doctorate Degree and three years of professional research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master’s Degree and five years of such experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have a Doctorate Degree in Psychology and have 5 years of research leadership as described above. The candidate should be an internationally recognized leader in electrophysiological research who has extensive publications in this area, has developed novel psychophysiological methodology widely applied in neuropsychiatric research, has produced innovative research paradigms in the field of cognitive and affective neuroscience, and has a proven ability to obtain sponsored research support and attract collaborators and students.

Duties Description The candidate will direct the Psychophysiology Laboratory, a core facility, and will engage in research collaborations across divisions, including research on risk and resilience for developing depressive disorders in the Epidemiology division, biosignatures of clinical response to behavioral and pharmacological treatments for depression in the Clinical Therapeutics division, schizophrenia in the Lieber Center for Schizophrenia Research and Treatment, and risk for developing psychosis in the Prodromal Schizophrenia Center. This research aims to identify underlying mechanisms of depression and schizophrenia, to develop biological markers for personalizing treatments for these disorders, and to develop prevention strategies for neuropsychiatric disorders. The individual will obtain research funding (with special emphasis on electrophysiological and behavioral measures of cognitive and emotional function in healthy individuals and patients with neuropsychiatric disease) and will carry out the research at NYSPI. The individual will also mentor junior research staff and trainees at NYSPI, consult and advise on scientific methodology, and assist in grant proposal development.

Additional Comments BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION AND FEES: Background Investigation/Justice Center Review: Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.
