Minimum Qualifications Candidates must be reachable for appointment from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list for this title;

Transfer Opportunity: Have one year of permanent service as a Speech Language Pathologist and eligible for transfer; or in a comparable title and eligible to transfer via Section 70.1 or 70.4 of Civil Service Law.

Temporary Appointment:
Speech Language Pathologist is a continuous recruitment examination. Candidates who are not on the eligible list may apply for this position and if appointed will receive a temporary appointment. Candidates who are not currently on the eligible list must submit a New York State Application (http://www.cs.ny.gov/examannouncements/announcements/oc-cr/20-489.cfm) to the Department of Civil Service for scoring.
Candidates appointed temporary must receive a score that is reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed. Candidates who are found not qualified, or who do not receive a reachable score may not be retained.
You must have a Master’s degree in Speech Pathology.
One year of professional post-Master’s experience as a Speech Language Pathologist.
* This experience is NOT in addition to the experience required for licensure or certification. However, you must have had one full calendar year of experience rather than the nine months of experience required for licensure or certification.
Either:Possession of NYS license as a Speech Language Pathologist OR Certification of clinical competence by the American Speech and Heating Association (ASHA).
Duties Description Speech Language Pathologist 2 will participate in a broad range of experiences dealing with the communication disorders of children with special needs. Provide clinical services as a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team. Provide consultation in this specialty for treatment programming and evaluation.
Additional Comments Background Investigation/Justice Center Review:
Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC), which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). Prospective employees may be required to pay any necessary fees. Additionally, prospective employees whose names are indicated on the SCR may be barred from appointment.

In order to be eligible for appointment and to maintain employment, you cannot be listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of the Federal and/or State Medicaid and Medicare exclusion lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program). If you are appointed and subsequently listed as an excluded individual or entity on any of these lists (or excluded from any other Federal or Federally assisted program), you may be terminated from your employment.
If appointed you may be required to become an enrolled Medicare provider; obtain and provide to your employer a National Provider Identifier (NPI) number issued by the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES); and otherwise actively participate to the degree necessary to allow for your services to be billed through Medicare and Medicaid. If you are appointed and lose the ability to bill through Medicare and Medicaid, you may be terminated from your employment.
Continued employment as a Speech Language Pathologist 2 is dependent upon current licensure and registration by New York State as a Licensed Speech Language Pathologist. Loss of licensure and registration may result in removal from employment.
Additional Comments:
This position is eligible for the Downstate Adjustment of $3,026.
