Minimum Qualifications Reachable for appointment from the appropriate Civil Service list for this title – appointment made at the Training Specialist Traineeship level.
OR One year of permanent competitive service as a Training Specialist 1?
OR Eligible for transfer pursuant to Section 52.6 or 70.1 of the Civil Service Law?
OR One year of permanent competitive service as an Assistant Training Technician (YS) eligible for a Training Specialist Trainee 2 appointment.
OR Eligible for Section 70.4 Transfer.* *70.4 Transfer: If you are a State employee with at least one year of permanent competitive service in a title Grade 11 or higher and have a passing score on the PCT, PATT or the PMI lists, you may be eligible for appointment to a traineeship leading to the Grade 18.
Duties Description Responsibilities include being a trainer in the Basic Academy Training modules which include but are not limited to: NY Model, Crisis Prevention and Management (CPM), First Aid/CPR/AED, Mental Health Training for Division of Juvenile Justice and Opportunities for Youth (DJJOY), Safety and Security in Facilities.
Supervise staff.
Write and/or update training curricula; Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, arrange classrooms, and demonstrate first aid/CPR, and safety & restraint techniques.
Maintain training records, coordinate training space, and confirm participation of co-trainers, presenters and participants.
Conduct training sessions or portions thereof, focusing on developing or refreshing skills of direct-care staff; conduct documented instruction and remedial training, as needed.
Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview.
Additional Comments Up to 20% travel may be required. Attending and graduating Basic Academy Training program, three weeks which is residential, is required if candidate has not completed the program since 2009.
