In the event that there is not a valid eligible list at this location, candidates who meet either the Promotion or Open-Competitive minimum qualifications for the Nurse Administrator 1 Psychiatric examinations (to be held January 6, 2018) may apply and if hired, will be provisionally appointed.
Candidates must have applied for the examination(s) by November 21, 2017 and must take the examination on January 6, 2018. Candidates appointed provisionally must receive a score that is reachable on the resulting eligible list before they can be permanently appointed.

Promotion Exam Minimum Qualifications:
You must be a qualified employee of New York State and have two years of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as:
Either 1. Nurse 2, (including all parenthetics), Community Mental Health Nurse, (including all parenthetics), Infection Control Nurse, or Senior Utilization Review Nurse;
Or 2. One year in any Grade 16 or higher position that requires a license and current New York State registration as a Registered Nurse.
Open-Competitive Exam Minimum Qualifications:
You must have a license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State and must have:
Either 1. three years of professional nursing experience in a setting that treats individuals diagnosed with mental illness, alcoholism, or chemical dependency;
Or 2. a bachelor's degree** in nursing or health services, healthcare administration, hospital administration, public health, or public administration in the healthcare area field AND two years of professional nursing experience in a setting that treats individuals diagnosed with mental illness, alcoholism, or chemical dependency.
**A master's degree in nursing, health services, healthcare administration, hospital administration, public health, or public administration in the healthcare area may be substituted for one year of experience.
Duties Description As a Nurse Administrator 1 (Psychiatric), you would be in charge of nursing services for a large number of individuals. This will involve direct or indirect supervision of professional and clinical staff. Your responsibilities may include ensuring implementation of facility policies and procedures related to nursing, initiating special investigations, scheduling staff, directing staff, teaching appropriate nursing techniques, and reviewing individuals' records for compliance with agency practice/protocol and developing a plan for correcting any deficiencies found.

Prospective appointees will be: 1) Checked against the Staff Exclusion List (SEL) maintained by the Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs. Prospective employees whose names appear on the SEL as having been found responsible for serious or repeated acts of abuse or neglect will be barred from appointment and may have their names removed from the eligible list(s) for the title(s) if applicable. 2) Investigated through a Criminal Background Check (CBC) which includes State and federal Criminal History Record Checks. All convictions must be reported; conviction of a felony or misdemeanor, or any falsified or omitted information on the prospective appointee’s employment application, may bar appointment or result in removal after appointment. Each case will be determined on its own merits, consistent with the applicable provisions of State and federal laws, rules, and regulations. Prospective employees will be fingerprinted in order to obtain a record of their criminal history information, and may be required to pay any necessary fees. 3) Screened against the Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR). The posted hiring rate is the sum of the statutory hiring rate for PS&T Grade 20 ($61,496), Mid-Hudson Adjustment ($1,513), and a Geographic Pay Differential ($12,871). The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($78,014), Mid-Hudson Adjustment ($1,513), Geographic Pay Differential ($12,871).
